“It was regrettable. It was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was brimming with enthusiasm for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the signal was entirely accidental, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the incorrect digit,” he remarked. “The action was inadvertently done. This is sincere. Should you call it unplanned, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an league proprietor has been fined for misconduct. Previous cases include:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
- Then Titans owner Bud Adams was issued a $250,000 fine in 2009 for a similar offensive signal.
